Moza R5 Pro Bundle Review: Best Budget Direct Drive Wheel (2026)

It’s been a while since I last tested entry-level hardware. It’s always good to get back to reality, where newcomers have the most questions and need answers. Beginners want to maximize their experience within a budget, and with the number of options available, it’s hard to know if there’s a true winner among them. Moza Racing has launched a bundle that aims to solve many of these questions.

Packaging

This time I can’t say much about the packaging, as my review unit is a pre-production version that lacks the details and refinements the final retail version will have.

What I can confirm is that Moza Racing maintains its standard packaging quality across all products, and the final version should follow suit.

Build quality

If this is your first step into sim racing, you’ll notice a similar quality level compared to competitors in the same price range. The materials are adequate, though not exceptional in finish or details. Everything fits well and feels solid, but don’t expect premium finishes at this price point.

Compared to what you got for the same money a few years ago, the situation has improved dramatically. The base is smaller, lighter, quieter, and uses advanced technology. The wheel and pedals also benefit from incremental improvements, though less noticeable than on bases designed to replace industry titans like Logitech and Thrustmaster.

The goal

It’s clear from my perspective: eliminate mechanical bases once and for all and switch exclusively to Direct Drive. Moza’s approach here is brilliant.

The weight is minimal (one-handed carry), and it takes up almost no space. With just two mounting screws, you can secure it to any desk or tray, and the FFB is more than enough to start sim racing with confidence and get solid immersion across all simulators and cars.

Installation

Straightforward if you’re somewhat handy. The base mounts with two screws (four is better). The pedals need assembly before anchoring, which takes some time — that’s my biggest gripe.

They’re designed for floor use, not cockpit mounting (you can, of course), due to their angle. The quick release with the wheel rim requires low pressure and locks firmly, simpler than higher-end models.

Materials

They deliver. The quality is good, and materials that were once exclusive to mid-range are now available at entry level. Finishes are clean, which is appreciated on an entry product. The pedals are fully steel, so they’re heavy but convey the robustness needed when upgrading from partial-plastic pedals. Nothing feels breakable or toy-like. The wheel rim is the weakest link — it feels too plastic and its size doesn’t help elevate the experience.

Delving deeper into the rim, the materials hold up. They use proven solutions that withstand thousands of hours of use. For the price of the complete bundle, you can’t ask for more.

Pedals: SRP Lite2 + Clutch Module

The bundle includes the SRP Lite2 pedals with (in my case) Moza’s added clutch module and brake performance kit. These additions elevate the pedals to the best in their class. Their durability lets you use them aggressively without worry.

The feel is good, but customization is limited. The angle is steep, making them better suited for floor or under-desk setups than cockpits. Progression and linear response are solid, though resistance won’t match higher-budget pedals. Coming from similar entry gear, they’re excellent.

Wheel

My most subjective criticism, since I spend all day with premium hardware. The rim feels small, and the solutions are entry-level.

They’re reliable, but that’s about it. The steering wheel texture is what bothers me most — the lack of padding suggests hard plastic beneath the synthetic leather. It breaks immersion slightly, but it shouldn’t bother most users, and in every other aspect, it delivers what’s expected.

Base

I love the compact size and minimal footprint. It has just enough force, and you won’t experience clipping if you use iRacing’s native FFB settings. MAIRA did clip for me, but if you stick to in-game parameters, you should be fine.

Expect a very responsive, accurate FFB for the modest price point. This base occupies one-third of a G29’s space, runs silent, and offers excellent reliability. Minimal heating too. I can’t see much more to ask here. A significant industry advancement.

Final verdict

Ten years ago, someone told me a beginner could buy a bundle like this for its current price, and I’d have thought they were joking. But the market has evolved. New competition forced Logitech and Thrustmaster to step up. We waited a decade from the G25 to OSW using outdated tech sold at premium prices. Now, multiple brands have democratized Direct Drive access, and I wouldn’t recommend anything less than this Moza bundle to someone starting out. These will be your first dollars invested in sim racing — the first, but not the last 😉
