The latest teaser for Assetto Corsa EVO does more than showcase visualsit marks a milestone in how Kunos Simulazioni is expanding the concept of automotive simulation.
The introduction of a Free Roam environment in the Eifel region complete with
AI traffic, thousands of kilometers of roads and a dynamic environmental system opens the door to a richer, more personalized and open driving experience.
This preview not only reinforces the original promise of realism and depth, but extends it toward limitless driving, representing an important step forward for the genre.
The video presents a region densely populated with AI-controlled traffic, suggesting that roads will feature non-playable vehicles moving autonomously, adding realism and life to exploration.
Additionally, the teaser shows signs of a day-and-night cycle system, nighttime urban lighting and environmental details such as fields, rural areas and carefully crafted landscapes.
New car models can be seen driving through the environment, indicating that the map will not be a static backdrop but rather a space designed for varied driving experiences.
Although Free Roam was originally announced for summer 2025, its release has been
delayed to early 2026 as part of Assetto Corsa EVO’s Early Access program. This suggests that the mode is still under development and being refined before public release.
It is worth noting that the current Early Access version already includes:
- 20 cars and 5 circuits across different locations.
- Several traditional game modes such as practice, quick races and a driving academy.
Beyond simply allowing driving outside traditional circuits, this mode introduces several
key innovations:
- Transitions between public roads and official circuits (such as access to the Nordschleife).
- A more living, dynamic world thanks to traffic, lighting changes and time-of-day variations.
- Exploration of real-world locations, adding context and variety to the simulation.
This broadens the traditional scope of a driving simulator: no longer is the experience limited to defined tracks, but instead players are encouraged to explore and live the act of driving.
