A few hours ago, iRacing’s President and CFO Tony Gardner made a post on the simulator’s forum discussing some upcoming new features such as new circuits, a new tire model, a new dynamic weather system with rain, and more.
He first mentions that they have increased the work capacity of the development teams by hiring new staff, including developers from Slightly Mad Studios, the creators of Project Cars. Additionally, they have brought in a top-level engineer who has worked on both commercial and professional simulators, which could bring substantial improvements to the simulator experience.
Another focus has been on Dirt Oval racing, giving great importance to the dynamic behavior of the track as the laps progress. This will make the behavior of a fresh track very different from a worn-out track, changing the racing lines taken by the vehicles.
These changes will also be reflected in oval and dirt road races, as they share similar characteristics in both cases.
Another piece of news is that they plan to release rain this year, without specifying when, and they are very pleased with the results they are achieving. However, they ask for patience, as it is not just rain, but a completely new dynamic weather system that will take advantage of these new features.
Of course, this will require new rain tires for the vehicles and existing ones will need to have new behaviors to the changes on the track. They have been working on improving the current tire model in iRacing, taking into account not only what is being developed, but also all the feedback from users regarding this controversial issue.
To conclude, they tell us that they are working on bringing new circuits to the simulator and improving or rescanning some that are already available. Among the circuits they are working on, we will have Algarve (Portimao), Aragón (Motorland), Jerez, Misano, Pukekohe, Lendenon, and many others that for different reasons they cannot mention. Additionally, they have just finished the rescan of Zandvoort, so we will soon have the current version of the Dutch circuit in iRacing.
See you on the track!
