This week, one of those moments arrived with the announcement that Sim-Lab and Cosworth will join forces to develop a new line of professional-grade hardware.
And we’re not talking about just another wheel on the market. It’s the Cosworth Carbon Wheel Mk3 (CCW Mk3), the very same model used by every driver in the 2025IndyCar season, now adapted for simulation.
From Real Circuits to the Desktop
The wheel will retain its FIA-certified 284 mm carbon structure, along with 12 RGB backlit buttons, 4 illuminated rotary switches, 4 thumb encoders, and up to 6 programmable paddles. It will also feature high-speed solid-state logging and dual CAN connectivity.
In essence, it’s a real racing instrument making its way into the digital world.
The Price of Perfection
Exclusivity comes at a cost, and in this case it won’t be symbolic. Based on previous Cosworth products, the price could exceed €2000. For some, that’s a steep figure; for others, it’s an investment in precision, durability, and status.
Sim-Lab CEO Richard Schouteren put it best:
“Cosworth’s legacy of engineering excellence fits perfectly with our mission to raise the ceiling for sim racing hardware. Together, we will deliver authentic motorsport performance and user-focused design to a wider audience of racers at home.”
That statement captures it perfectly. This alliance doesn’t aim to sell luxury; it aims to deliver authenticity. The goal is for every turn of the wheel, every press of a button, to feel identical to what a professional driver experiences at full speed.
Visitors to the ADAC SimRacing Expo in Dortmund will have the chance to see and touch a real CCW Mk3 this weekend. And yes, it might be wise to bring deep pockets, because temptation will be strong.
For everyone else, it may remain a dream, but one that undoubtedly pushes the limits of what’s possible in this fascinating digital world.
Happy Racing!
