The Bahrain GP has been cancelled, but that does not mean you cannot recreate it at home and enjoy this circuit.
This weekend, F1 should have been returning to Bahrain to hold its usual annual Grand Prix after the pre-season tests. However, recent events in the region have led to the suspension of all Middle East rounds, also including Jeddah next week.
Bahrain continues to suffer the consequences of being a small and strategically sensitive country in the Gulf. The war is causing damage to its facilities and data centers, and the situation is both dangerous and complex. In this context, the Grand Prix has been cancelled with no possibility of being rescheduled later.
Several years ago, I was lucky enough to attend the start of the F1 season there and I have very fond memories of the experience. I wrote a post about all of that here. If you want to recreate the entire F1 race, you can keep reading in this article, where I go over all the usual key points.
What to expect from a 2026 Bahrain GP at home
Even if there is no real‑world race this year, you can expect the usual high‑degradation, rear‑limited challenge that makes Sakhir such a tyre killer, with traction on corner exit and brake stability playing a key role over a full race distance in Assetto Corsa . In your setups, it is worth prioritising strong rear grip and good braking performance for the heavy stops at Turns 1, 4 and the end of the back straight, even if that means sacrificing a bit of straight‑line speed.
- Qualifying laps in Bahrain are all about maximizing rotation in the slow and medium‑speed corners without overheating the rear tyres before the final sector, where a clean exit onto the main straight can decide several grid positions.
- Race stints tend to be dominated by tyre management and traction, so practicing smooth throttle application out of Turns 1, 8, 10 and 14 in Assetto Corsa will pay off when you simulate long runs against the AI.
- With the real event cancelled, you can freely tweak race length, weather and time of day in your sim, recreating the usual night‑race atmosphere or experimenting with sunset conditions for a different visual challenge.
Bahrain International Circuit facts
- Location: Sakhir, Bahrain.
- Layout type: Permanent desert‑based road course with several long straights and tight braking zones.
- Lap length: Approximately 5.412 km (3.363 miles) for the Grand Prix layout.
- Race distance: Around 308 km over 57 laps for a typical Bahrain Grand Prix.
- Number of corners: 15 turns, combining slow hairpins, medium‑speed sweepers and a couple of fast bends.
- First F1 race: Bahrain hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2004 and has been a regular fixture on the calendar since then.
- Signature sections: The downhill braking into Turn 10, the long acceleration zone from Turn 3 to Turn 4 and the final corner onto the main straight are the key parts of the lap for both real drivers and simracers.
- OT zones: Typically multiple OT zones along the main straight and between Turns 3 and 4, creating classic slipstream and late‑braking overtakes into Turns 1 and 4.
No real 2026 Bahrain GP, but you can still run a full weekend
The cancellation of the 2026 Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix leaves a five‑week gap in the real F1 schedule between Japan and Miami, with no replacement events planned on the official calendar. That gap is an ideal opportunity to create your own custom Bahrain race weekend in Assetto Corsa , mirroring a full three‑day format with practice, qualifying and race sessions tuned exactly to your preferences.
Even if there is no official timetable to follow this year, you can reuse a traditional Bahrain schedule as a template, simply aligning your sim sessions with your favourite viewing times at home. In these articles, the goal is always the same: give you enough context and the right mods so that you can build a complete Grand Prix weekend inside Assetto Corsa.
Recreate the 2026 Bahrain GP in Assetto Corsa
If you own Assetto Corsa on PC, you can bring the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix to life with a combination of community content and tools, just like with other races on the calendar. With a solid F1 2026 car mod, an updated Bahrain International Circuit and Content Manager, you can set up realistic race distances, AI grids and even simulate night‑race conditions with custom weather and lighting.
The basic recipe is simple: load your favourite F1 2026 mod, pick a high‑quality Bahrain layout and race against an AI field that mirrors the current Formula 1 grid as closely as possible. Thanks to modern physics and detailed track meshes, braking points, kerbs and traction zones will feel close enough to reality to be both fun and a useful environment for basic race preparation.
The circuit is not officially available for Assetto Corsa, but there are several good community versions you can use. To manage everything comfortably and keep your install tidy, you can rely on the usual toolbox:
- Bahrain International Circuit (Fenryr version) (Free)
- Formula Hybrid X 2026
- Formula Ultra 2026 1.1 (Free)
- Content Manager
As always, remember that you should only download mods from trusted sources and keep an eye on performance and AI lines, especially when running full 20‑car or 22‑car grids.
We leave you with some impressive laps in Assetto Corsa:
