Rennsport Discusses Its Physics

More chapters in this novel featuring rf rFactor 2 and Rennsport as the main protagonists. In this case, Rennsport’s note indicates that the foundations of some of its physics come from ISI, the creators of the original rFactor.

Today, we can finally delve deeper into this.

When we began developing RENNSPORT, our goals were to build something from the ground up. Originally, this meant custom physics, tire models, tailored graphics, and sound. We experimented in many ways initially and concluded that, for some aspects, we needed a foundation to expedite development. We turned to an industry leader: Image Space Inc., to acquire a full license to use their physics processing system (known as “ISI Technology”) to act as that foundation. ISI has provided industry-tested technology for the automotive and gaming sectors for over two decades, making it, in our view, the best choice for a solid base to build upon.

Custom-Made

When we say custom-made, we mean something created by our in-house teams, but we’ve also taken care to build a platform that’s modular, allowing us to use external software libraries and technologies to complement our expertise.

Since implementing ISI’s physics processing, parts of ISI have been adjusted, refined, and altered to make it, in our belief, the ultimate racing experience. There are already 100% custom additions on top of our licensed engine: collisions, contact points, and damage models are just a few examples.

Looking Ahead

Our ambition remains to create custom physics. A project of this nature from scratch is a multi-year endeavor. A complete rewrite will enable us to support more advanced racing experiences, such as the implementation of mixed weather systems, larger races, and higher-quality physics by increasing the physics thread frequency. We believe we can achieve this instead with incremental improvements upon the strong foundations we have.

We’ve noticed with these “revelations” that there is a significant need for more transparency. This benefits us because the team is extremely proud to showcase its technical achievements. As such, we will dedicate more space in our “UNDER THE HOOD” blog to technical topics where we can show the community what we’re working on.
