Following the addition of Hypercar class representatives from BMW and Porsche, Rennsport has officially previewed the arrival of the Peugeot 9X8, one of the most distinctive entries in the current World Endurance Championship (WEC) landscape.

Since launch, one of the recurring criticisms aimed at Rennsport has been its limited initial content offering, particularly in terms of vehicles. The studio has maintained a strategy of gradual expansion through the introduction of new cars and themed content packs.

Previous announcements have included concept models such as the Hyundai N Vision, alongside two update lines centered on endurance and touring car classics.

LMH vs LMDh: A Key Distinction

The arrival of the Peugeot 9X8 aligns with the broader objective of strengthening the Hypercar category within the simulator. The French prototype competes under Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) regulations, conceptually differentiating it from the LMDh prototypes already featured in the title.

At present, the top-tier prototype roster includes the BMW M Hybrid V8 and the Porsche 963, the latter of which, by 2026, is set to compete exclusively in IMSA.

The Winged Version Appears Likely

While Competition Company has not detailed the precise scope of the addition, teaser material strongly suggests that the version of the 9X8 arriving in the simulator will be the rear-wing configuration.

This variant debuted at the 2024 6 Hours of Imola, representing a notable evolution from the original no-wing design that drew widespread attention for its unconventional aerodynamic philosophy. The choice of specification is significant, reflecting the car’s real-world technical progression.

A Fully Bespoke LMH Prototype

The Peugeot 9X8 also holds a unique position within the Hypercar category. It is widely recognized as the first top-class prototype designed entirely around LMH regulations, resulting in a fully bespoke development approach.

This philosophy contrasts with the LMDh platform, where manufacturers rely on standardized chassis suppliers such as Dallara or Multimatic. The technical divergence between these concepts continues to be a central discussion point in modern endurance racing, both in real-world competition and simulation.

No Confirmed Release Date Yet

With its inclusion, Rennsport will become the third major simulation title to officially feature the 9X8, following its appearance in Le Mans Ultimate and Project Motor Racing. However, no release window or distribution details have been confirmed, leaving open questions regarding how and when the car will be integrated into the game’s update roadmap.
