We’ve just published our spanish review on this title and I was going to start translation to make it available here when I stumbled upon on this wonderful and straight to the point review on reddit.
This review is going to choke me up saying it.
Before I begin I’ll acknowledge that the handling of the cars feels great, the tire model is awesome. the differences between FE, ME and RE cars is great. The pure physics side is great (except for 1 thing we’ll come to later). I’ve probably poured about 20+ hours into this game since launch.
However, since a physics engine isn’t a game I’ve gotta say this. Kunos, Y’all went and fucked this up.
Seriously wtf is 1.0 release. You can’t tell me they envisaged this as 1.0 – whoever pushed for this release should be fired and I’ll explain why. Meeting a timeline because maybe you had contractual pressure should be a conversation. Surely Blancpain wouldn’t have wanted this reception.
Did anyone listen and take on the feedback? This game is basically DOA and getting terrible mixed reviews from not just Steam but big name streamers and professional GT3 drivers. I don’t want to say I told you, but I and others raised concerns about how it would be received.
I’m not even worried by the crashes or VR issues – that can happen on launch and usually quickly fixed. I’m talking about the real actual content such as a meaningful and engaging multiplayer content that makes some fucking sense. Has leagues you can join, have a CP that’s accessible to everyone. A meaningful single player endurance series. stats on my races, best times, charts and a history log of races for me to look back at. Those driver profile charts are useless. Why can’t I click on a bar and it takes me to the actual session so I can see my times etc.
Friend lobbies and joining as a group should be standard for a modern game. The career mode is a joke. There are hotkeys everywhere that I can’t find and I have to google. I still haven’t figured out how to save a god damn endurance race. The list of crap goes on.
The most frustrating aspect of the launch deserves it’s own paragraph. What the fuck is wrong with the curbs. They are vortexes that suck you in and spin you around. You could see Nick Thiim getting SOOOO frustrated by his first 3 hours in this game.
It feels like they made a simulation and tried to sell it as a game, except it’s not a game. Kunos please HIRE an actual game designer to make a meaningful experience as a GAME (hint the outside of sim stuff is JUST as important as the sim itself). This isn’t 2010 – there are plenty of great sim racing GAMES already released. As a game Project Cars, f1 2018, GT sport etc all do it better. As a competitive sim iRacing destroys you, and I’d even suggest AC SRS is probably better. ACC fits no where in it’s current state and that makes me sad.
Don’t even tell me it’s about endurance racing. There is no game, no sense of achievement, nothing for me to see about the past on my achievements. Just nothing. So what’s the point. You are relying on leagues to fill the gaps you should have included from the start. Speaking of leagues bring them into the game as first class citizens so we can manage them in game, and launch into servers from them etc.
The first impressions are so important, and honestly I feel like they dropped the ball BADLY. If a current factory AMR driver (who is also an avid sim racer) and Billy broadband are disappointed you can bet that’s swayed a 1000’s of people away from this game.
I hope you provide a real roadmap that blows peoples socks off…because right now more tracks and more cars isn’t going to solve your issues.
Basically I agree with this user and invite you to follow this thread and conversation on reddit here.
