Review: Logitech G335 Headset

This colorful headset you see in the featured image belongs to Logitech’s new collection of peripherals designed to give a touch of different colors to the usually monotonous (chromatically speaking without RGBs) gaming category.

Thanks to Logitech we had the opportunity to test these G335 whose main peculiarities make them a product with personality, and as we will see below they seem to go against the mainstream of many market trends.

If anything characterizes these headphones is their colorful and lively look, out of the boring dark ranges in which we have thousands of products and among which we usually choose.

Although this G335 is also distributed in classic black, this turquoise green of my unit is the liveliest of the offered three. There is also a halfway variant in white and blue if you don’t want to be so bold.

Common features to all three colors are somehow unusual when we talk about headset with microphone. Reason behind that is the connection of these headphones is wired with 3.5mm jack at the end. A long wire designed for gamers both console and PC, so the extension is about 2 meters approximately, plus the multiplexer extension to connect the mic to a dual input and output as the PC.

The wire makes a lot of sense if we want to give the headset another of its most important features, which is none other than its reduced weight. Just 240 grams make it very comfortable to wear on the head. It does not bother at all in long sessions and thanks to the way the earmuffs are designed, they do not even transfer heat to the ears.

A lot of thought seems to have been focused to the comfort on this model, with a colorful flexible headband (and interchangeable with other models) that acts as a first grip before touching the plastic part upper on the headset. The earmuffs have a wide cavity so that there is no contact between the helmets and the ears, so they do not touch or come into direct contact achieving a feeling of freedom. This feeling of freedom is a little constrained by the existence of the limited wire, but you can not have lightness and autonomy at this precise moment, since the addition of batteries makes the weights increase too much.

Talking about sound, truth is that I have to say that the sound is good, because it colors in a natural way. It does not affect highs or lows, it does not distort or adulterate the intention of the original sound and transmits the spirit of the source programming.

On quality, it does not reach excellence, and perhaps in this price range and with wired connectivity it could go a little further. Being focused on the frequency range that a player expects but outside the gaming ecosystem, it shows its limitations in an obvious way. Keep in mind that if it were simRacing hardware, we would be talking about something similar to Logitech steering wheels, for those who need to understand the equivalence.

The microphone is much better than the usual ones, but it is a small step below those included in the HMD’s as Reverb G2 or Oculus, or at least that’s what I have been told by friends and colleagues, who hear me clear, but not with as much quality as with other devices. That’s above helmets with USB connectivity of a similar price range.

The fact is that there is a certain vintage nostalgia in the model, which dispenses with digital controls even for the volume and gives us in the back of the left ear a small analog wheel quite accurate and easy to access once we know where it is.

Price is the last thing we must to talk. Starting at 60 pounds and that if the offers are available, it can be found with a good discount at the usual retailers. What does not seem to be acceptable is the price of the eight interchangeable colored straps that go up to 9 pounds in exchange for customizing yours.

As a conclusion, an interesting model with its own personality that focuses its strengths on comfort and lightness and allowing us to focus only on the game as if nothing hindered us. We will be able to focus on the details of the action, which we will hear clearly and concisely and with interesting quality. If we can find it for less than 55 pounds, all the better.

Right now you can find it for its recommended price on Amazon.
