rFactor 2 Gets a Boost with Low Fuel Motorsport

Low Fuel Motorsport (LFM) is an online platform that provides structured races for sim racing games, particularly Assetto Corsa Competizione and rFactor 2 . LFM has gained popularity through its involvement in various competitions and recently finished its beta for rFactor 2.

Features of LFM’s platform

The platform features ranking systems that assess a player’s on-track behavior (safety rating) and driving performance (ELO), categorizing players into tiers ranging from Rookie to Alien. Players can advance to higher tiers by improving their safety rating and ELO and participating in enough races.

Comparison to rFactor 2’s online racing experience

rFactor 2 has struggled to offer a satisfactory online racing experience for a long time. In the past, the only way to compete online was to join a league because public lobbies were often filled with AI drivers, reckless players, or inexperienced racers.

Studio 397 tried to solve this problem by introducing a competition system for rFactor 2, but it encountered many issues, such as incorrect qualifying results and problems joining sessions. As a result, the competition system is now mostly restricted to hot lap competitions and basic races.

LFM’s solution for improving rFactor 2’s online racing experience

LFM aims to provide a better online racing experience for rFactor 2 by offering a variety of paid and free content, as well as ranking systems and scheduled races. However, there are several challenges to overcome. One major issue is the small player base for rFactor 2, many of whom are already involved with established leagues.

When a race hosted by these leagues is coming up, the player population on LFM tends to drop significantly. Additionally, LFM’s reliance on paid content may discourage some players from joining.

Additional challenges faced by LFM

Despite these challenges, LFM has the potential to become a major player in the rFactor 2 online racing scene. It offers a more organized and structured racing experience than public lobbies, and its ranking systems provide a sense of progression and competition. If LFM can address the issues mentioned above and continue to expand its content and player base, it may eventually surpass even the most well-known leagues.
