rFactor 2 – Q4 2022 Highlights and Details

On November 8th, 2022 will be released what is one of the most extensive updates to rFactor 2 , in addition to the arrival of several completely new pieces of content. On the update side we have improvements to the IA, track limits, in-game store and more. On the new content side we have two new cars and 4 new circuits: Bahrain International Circuit, Croft Circuit, Thruxton Circuit, ExCeL London Circuit. Below we leave you the official note with all the details of the Q4 2022 content.

Four new tracks, all unique to rFactor 2 :

  • Thruxton – The fastest circuit in the United Kingdom, home to the daunting Church Corner. Founded in 1968, it’s used by leading real-world national motorsport championships. This year, the BTCC visited the circuit twice, and it will return in 2023, 3rd-4th June. It first held a round at the venue 43 years ago.
  • Croft Circuit – The only permanent national-level circuit in the North East of England. It’s known for its mix of high-speed curves and a tight final sector, culminating in one of the slowest corners in UK motorsport – in direct contrast to Thruxton.
  • Bahrain International Circuit – The venue used for series such as Formula 1 and the FIA World Endurance Series made its rFactor 2 debut within the opening 2022-23 Le Mans Virtual Series round in September, won by Floyd Vanwall-Burst (LMP) and Oracle Red Bull Racing (GTE). Four layouts are included: Grand Prix, Endurance, Outer and Paddock.

  • ExCeL London Circuit – First created and used by Formula E in 2021, the world-first venue in London mixes tight hairpins and narrow confines within an indoor section. It debuted virtually during the Formula E: Accelerate esports competition in July 2022, won by Frede Rasmussen.

Two new cars, only available for rFactor 2:

  • 2019 BTCC championship winning BMW 330i – packaged with 2021 season Team BMW and Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport liveries, for drivers Colin Turkington, Stephen Jelley, Tom Oliphant, Adam Morgan and Tom Chilton. Rear-wheel drive.

  • Vanwall Vandervell LMH – Developed by Vanwall themselves, this car uses a 4.5 litre Gibson V8 and is created by the German ByKolles outfit, with planned use in the 2023 FIA WEC a target.

Platform-wide improvements…

In addition, several quality-of-life updates to rFactor 2 will be launching on the same day, including:

  • Thoroughly revised AI performance (smoother and more naturalistic)
  • Removal of front-wheel-drive BTCC car downshift protection
  • Track limit system updates
  • Increased virtual reality (VR) exposure
  • User interface tweaks (increased navigation speed)
  • Increased package installation speed
  • Headlight pulse option

The new content and changes follow the addition of a native in-game store – removing the need to exit the platform, showcasing bundle offers and previously purchase content which was implemented in October.

In previous drop (Q3 August 2022), a free-to-all Caterham Academy race car was added, alongside paid DLC Ford Focus ST and Hyundai i30N Fastback Performance BTCC cars, a historic Austin Mini Cooper S and Illinois’ World Wide Technology Raceway in both oval and road course configurations.

An all-new penalty-point based track limit system was implemented then too, with further refinements in November, alongside fresh ABS and traction control systems, plus Real Road 2.0 track evolution.

The latest car and track additions to rFactor 2 means that there are now 6 layouts and 6 car types from the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) represented in the simulation.
