Should Gran Turismo 8 Be Released on PC?

In 2025, keeping Gran Turismo 7 locked to the PS5 shows cracks. What worked in the 2000s tying driving fans to one console now looks like a business model that leaves money on the table.

A Model That Worked… But the Market Has Changed

Gran Turismo has always been a system seller. For years, many players bought a PlayStation just to enjoy it. That emotional bond, along with the lack of real competition on consoles, gave Sony a huge edge for generations. The problem is that in 2025 the reality is different.

The PC sim racing market has grown and diversified; high-end racing hardware is primarily designed for PC, leaving the PS5 at a disadvantage; and permanent exclusives have lost power as a retention tool. Even PlayStation has taken series like Horizon or Spider-Man to PC with strong results.

The Cost/Benefit Equation for Sony

Keeping GT7 exclusive can sell some extra consoles, but the math gets shaky when you consider PC sales potential. A well-optimized PC version could drive hundreds of thousands of purchases, many from players who already own a PS5 and would gladly double-dip for better graphics, mods, or more flexible VR support.

Every month GT7 is not on PC is a month when Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing, or Forza Motorsport capture that attention and spend. In other words, Sony may be sacrificing millions in potential revenue for a strategy that, in practice, only convinces a fraction of the audience.

In sim racing, hardware is everything. A user who invests in a Direct Drive wheelbase, load-cell pedals, and triple monitors doesn’t want their setup limited by console compatibility.

The PC sales upside, access to more advanced hardware, and the chance to expand the sim racing community are too compelling to ignore.

Sony has shown that bringing exclusives to PC does not destroy the appeal of its consoles. God of War and The Last of Us Part I posted strong PC sales while remaining flagship PlayStation titles.

Microsoft has embraced day-and-date releases on console and PC; while not a perfect comparison, it demonstrates that coexistence is both possible and profitable.

Maybe GT7 has already missed its ideal window to land on PC, but the message is clear: Gran Turismo 8 should launch multiplatform if Sony wants to stay competitive in a market that no longer forgives eternal exclusivity.
