Polyphony Digital aims to keep its latest PS4 and PS5 exclusive racing simulator up-to-date for all its drivers, and it demonstrates this with the release of Update 1.31 and its new partnership with the Japanese Super Formula Championship.
On April 4th, 2023, Japan Race Promotion (JRP), organizers of the Super Formula Championship, announced a fresh collaboration with Polyphony Digital to include the official car for 2023.
In 2019, we witnessed this partnership in action with the introduction of SF19 in Gran Turismo Sport, along with stronger ties between eSports and the organization of events like the “Super Formula Virtual Series.” According to JRP’s statement, “The intention is to further strengthen connections with e-motorsports and introduce Super Formula to gamers worldwide, while supporting e-motorsports players step by step in realizing their dream of becoming real racing drivers.”
The SF23, the car we will use in Gran Turismo 7 , was jointly developed by Toyota and Honda, with carbon neutrality in mind, featuring a 6-speed sequential transmission and a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine generating around 550-600 horsepower.
It will be available in two designs, Red Tiger and White Tiger, on April 7, 2023, in the monthly update.
In addition to the new vehicle, there will be a “livery” competition, where players can create a livery based on the colors of each Super Formula team.
