The film “Gran Turismo” now has a release date

The Neill Blomkamp-directed Gran Turismo film already has a release date, and it will be here sooner than we expected. Following the revelation that Sony intends to bring several of its brands to television, a film project is taking form. The film will be released in theaters on August 11, 2023, based on Polyphony Digital’s famous game.

According to Variety, the Gran Turismo film is still in the planning phases. The film will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, well known for his work on District 9 and Chappie, with Jason Hall writing the screenplay. Many people were curious about the film after learning that Blomkamp will be in charge of it.

Some believed it would be a Top Gear-style documentary on automotive culture, while others predicted it would be more of a KAZ-style tale about Kazunori Yamauchi. Gran Turismo, as the blurb suggests, will choose a tale based on a genuine story.

Based on a true tale, the film is the ultimate dream come true for a young Gran Turismo player who won a series of Nissan competitions to become a genuine professional racing driver.

The story will most likely revolve around Jann Mardenborough, a driver who participates in the Japanese Super GT. Gran Turismo 3 players will be familiar with Mardenborough’s tale. In 2011, he became the GT Academy’s youngest winner. The Nissan and Polyphony Digital event provided a spot in Nissan’s professional driver development program.

Mardenborough secured the privilege to participate in the Dubai 24 Hours and the British GT Championship after defeating over 90,000 competitors. He made his début in the 24 Hours of Le Mans two years later, finishing third in the LMP2 category. Unlike previous GT Academy champions, the Briton has been racing at the highest level for almost a decade.

Although Mardenborough would be the best choice, we don’t know if Neill Blomkamp and his team would choose him. The Gran Turismo film will be produced by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions, as well as Doug Belgrad (Charlie’s Angels) and Dana Brunetti (The Social Network).

Gran Turismo by Neill Blomkamp will be published on August 11, 2023, but given Sony’s history with adaptations, this date might change.
