The automotive division of Xiaomi, traditionally known for its leadership in mobile technology, has taken a bold step into the world of high-performance mobility with the unveiling of its Vision GT concept car during Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona.

Officially named the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo (GT), this prototype represents a strategic statement about the brand’s ambitions in the high-performance electric vehicle segment and futuristic automotive design.

In addition to unveiling the Vision GT concept, Xiaomi has a deeper partnership with Gran Turismo. On June 7, 2025, the company and Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital officially announced a collaboration that brings Xiaomi’s high-performance SU7 Ultra electric sedan into Gran Turismo 7 as part of a future update. This marks the first time a Chinese-branded vehicle appears in the iconic racing franchise and sets the stage for the development of the Vision Gran Turismo concept car as part of the partnership.

Futuristic Vision and Uncompromising Aerodynamic Design

The Vision GT is presented as a fully electric hypercar with an ultra-low silhouette and lines that evoke a top-tier racing machine. The exterior design follows a philosophy of functional aerodynamics: every element, from the T-shaped headlights to the front splitter and massive rear diffuser, is engineered to optimize airflow without relying on unnecessary add-ons.

Scissor doors, an open wheel arch design, and a prominent central fin reinforce its aggressive, motorsport-inspired aesthetic, while the C-shaped taillights—now a recognizable Xiaomi visual signature—give the vehicle a distinct and cohesive identity.

Interior Design: Comfort and Technology on Equal Footing

One of the most distinctive aspects of the Vision GT is its focus on comfort and digital immersion. Rather than featuring a purely competition-oriented cockpit, the interior is built around a “cocoon-like sofa” concept, with seats integrated into a continuous structure that envelops occupants.

The butterfly-style steering wheel, panoramic display, and integrated screens beneath the windshield create a space that blends lounge-like comfort with advanced connectivity. This interior architecture, more aligned with a digitally driven user experience than a traditional track-focused cockpit, reinforces Xiaomi’s technological mission to integrate fully connected experiences within its broader ecosystem.

Electric Technology and Global Presence: Beyond the Concept

Although the Vision GT remains a conceptual exercise for now, its presence at MWC is no coincidence. It makes Xiaomi the first Chinese brand invited to participate in the Vision Gran Turismo program, a historic platform within the Gran Turismo 7 universe that showcases extreme vehicle designs free from production or regulatory constraints.

The vehicle is built on a 900-volt silicon carbide–based electric platform which, according to previous estimates, could deliver more than 1,900 horsepower in its virtual configurations—placing the Vision GT at the performance threshold of the most demanding modern hypercars.

Additionally, the announcement aligns with the broader strategy of Xiaomi Auto to expand operations beyond China starting in 2027, with teams already preparing international sales structures and support networks.

Strategic Implications and Market Expectations

The unveiling of the Vision GT not only adds another piece to Xiaomi’s conceptual portfolio, but also sends a clear message to the automotive industry: the company is not merely building electric vehicles—it is prepared to compete in the realm of extreme design and next-generation technology integration.

Xiaomi’s approach combines consumer education—through digital experiences such as its inclusion in Gran Turismo 7—with the construction of a brand identity associated with innovation, connectivity, and performance. This strategy could carry significant implications, both for its positioning against traditional competitors and for the broader perception of Chinese manufacturers in the global automotive market.
