The RaceRoom team recently confirmed that the legendary British circuit of Donington Park will be coming to the simulator “very soon.” We still don’t know when it will be released, but based on the images they’ve shared of the circuit, we believe it will be this summer.
Originally part of the Donington Hall estate, it was built as a racing circuit between World Wars I and II, when the German Silver Arrows competed for the European Championship. Originally used as a military vehicle depot during WWII, it fell into disuse until it was purchased by local construction entrepreneur Tom Wheatcroft. It was resurrected under his ownership in the 1970s and hosted a single Formula One race in 1993 before becoming the preferred venue for the British round of the MotoGP motorcycle championship.
Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd leased the track in 2007 in the hope that Formula One racing would return, but the shady venture failed to raise sufficient financial backing in the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis. As a result, DVLL lost the rights to the British rounds of the Formula One and MotoGP series, and the track was returned to the Wheatcroft family in December 2009 as part of its bankruptcy.
