NEW: Fanatec Is Part Of GoodWood Racing Records!

Every year, remarkable racing vehicles from the past and present bolides are not only on show, but also driven at great speed, often to their limits, during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. As careful viewers of the onboard film would have noted, Max Chilton in the electric McMurtry Spéirling fan vehicle established a new record on the Hillclimb course in 2022 – with a little help from SimRacing equipment from Fanatec.

Chilton won the shootout event with an amazing timing of 39.08 seconds for the 1890-metre hillclimb. The Spéirling’s onboard camera revealed a sight familiar to many SimRacers: the steering wheel was clearly fitted with Fanatec’s Advanced Paddle Module.

There are four magnetic paddles and two analogue clutch paddles in the module. It is now not only utilized in innumerable sim rigs all around the world, but it is also part of a world record attempt.

When it comes to deploying its equipment in racing vehicles, Fanatec is no stranger: in partnership with BMW, it produced the steering wheel for the new M4 GT3, which can be used in both the real car and the simulator. The Bentley GT3 steering wheel for the Pikes Peak version of the automobile is based on the same principle.

The APM, on the other hand, was not designed expressly for use in race vehicles. As a result, the finding of the module during Chilton’s drive surprised the Landshut-based manufacturer, as it stated in a tweet following the car’s initial run before the record attempt. The complete YouTube feed of Sunday’s shootout includes Spéirling’s record-breaking run.

See you on the track!
