Porsche is coming… in January

This is somehow unexpected. Many of our readers know Porsche had a very restrictive agreement with Electronics Arts for the last 15 years. This agreement said something like, none of the Porsche models could appear in any video game without the EA’s consent. The contract was set to expire in 2016 and we have seen very few movements in the way car maker recover their own licensing rights.

Assetto Corsa and Porsche have been working to throw many different models of all times to retrieve some of this strange “lost period”. Finally, if some months ago was Ferrari having a first confirmed car with iRacing, now it is Porsche that signs too for at least two new models.

Remember Ferrari announcement:

“This is a landmark moment for iRacing and online racing,” says Steve Myers, Executive Vice President and Executive Producer for iRacing.com. “Ferrari is synonymous with world championship caliber race cars and high performance automobiles. The Prancing Horse logo famously inspires passion among racing and automotive aficionados everywhere. iRacers are also passionate about online racing and I have no doubt they will be thrilled at the prospects of racing the 488 GTE and other Ferraris in the future.”

Now, few hours into the 2017 we get Porsche:

“iRacing today announced a partnership that will see the popular online motorsports simulation service create digital models of the German automaker’s iconic race cars, beginning with the recently updated Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991 II).

The new 911 GT3 Cup is employed by customer sports teams to compete in 20 race series organized by Porsche across the globe, like the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, the GT3 Cup in the USA and the international Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – making it the world’s most produced and most used GT race car. Now, the 911 GT3 Cup finally arrives in the online racing world. Additional Porsche models will be announced as they become available.”
