RaceRoom: Tire Physics and Additional Innovations

This summer, we featured an article on RaceRoom discussing the inclusion of the Porsche pack for this Free-to-Play simulator. Nearly 5 months later, the development team is revealing the upcoming updates for RaceRoom.

The most significant development in RaceRoom is the overhaul of the tire model. The physics will be substantially impacted by this new model, potentially making it more realistic. In the note provided by KW Studios on Steam, they describe their journey regarding the physics model.

“Since this summer, our internal physics channels have been in a constant state of flux. Discussions about adjustments to tire model variables, research on the main physics engine and comparing it with research data, as well as recorded data from racing cars…”

“What you can expect from all this work is a much more dynamic feel, achieved by ensuring that the tire reacts appropriately in various operating conditions, such as tire load and tilt angle. Previously, the behavior was correct under optimal and more common conditions, but it didn’t change much outside of that window, as we lacked information about what should happen in those cases.”

To achieve this tire model, the development team collaborated closely with engineers from the Falken tire brand. Due to the complexity of the project, initially planned for release in December of this year, it has been confirmed that it will be available in 2024.

New Interface for RaceRoom

One noticeable aspect when entering RaceRoom is the interface. KW Studios acknowledges that certain important details are missing and they are actively working on them.

“We haven’t forgotten our long-term feature plans and remain committed as always. The interface update includes some elements already in the game, such as the replay interface, options menu, as well as the garage and car setup menus.”

“What remains to be done is the main menu and content selection menus. The current presentation of content is unappealing and requires the user to make an effort to familiarize themselves with a panel of car class icons with no way to sort by specifications, regulations, car type, etc.”

While there is no exact date for these updates, it is hoped that the work will be carried out successfully, and we can enjoy this improved version of RaceRoom. You can read the full note here.
