We revealed a month ago that Gran Turismo 7 will no longer be the game of choice for the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games. However, the FIA’s director has remarked that he would select Gran Turismo 7 again once the game has developed to a competitive level and all of its flaws have been resolved.

This was a major setback for the brand, given they had previously collaborated on Gran Turismo Sport, which was published in 2017. The FIA’s eSports director revealed that he picked Assetto Corsa Competizione because Gran Turismo 7 could not meet his standards. Rather, the two have temporarily ceased their partnership so that its devs may focus on the game. During this period, Polyphony Digital must address the multiplayer’s instability and provide the features required for GT7 to compete again.
As a result, Frederic Bertrand, head of Innovative Sports Activities for motorsport and Formula E, guaranteed that they are still working on additional initiatives with Gran Turismo. He also stated that the two businesses had reached a deal and that Gran Turismo 7 would be accepted back into the FIA after it has improved.
“The issue we had with FIA Motorsport Games at the time was that they weren’t always ready to support the live event as we wanted due of Gran Turismo 7 and all that. So we agreed to collaborate with Assetto Corsa for this year’s edition. It’s also more convenient for us because it’s more open to a wider range of nations.
“Nonetheless, we continue to collaborate with Gran Turismo on a variety of other initiatives. So, no, it isn’t the end. It’s just accepting a non-exclusive approach, and we feel that eSports should be more open. That’s what Kazunori Yamauchi and I agreed on. Gran Turismo 7 became Sony’s lowest-rated game on sites like Metacritic, where players slammed it with a 2 out of 10 rating based on over 10,000 reviews. And the game included microtransactions and a Pay To Win concept, which allowed players to pay and instantly obtain particular cars without having to play.
